This movement had not been working for many years. Once it had been taken down from the tower, it was delivered back to our work shop where it was dismantled and all the components checked for excessive wear. We replaced those items beyond their serviceable life, including re-bushing where necessary.
RESTORATION OF CLOCKS AND BELLS BY
GILLETT & JOHNSTON
Restoration and Conservation is an important part of our work and is carried out both skillfully and sympathetically in accordance with the guide lines laid down by the Council for the Care of Places of Worship.
The pivots were polished together with stoning pads and lockings; we straight grained the gear wheels and checked teeth for alignment. A new gear was cut before reassembling the mechanism and applying appropriate oils etc to moving surfaces. After thoroughly testing and regulating, the mechanism was dismantled for transportation back to site, where it was reassembled and connected to the motionwork.
